Members have been chosen for the Industry led Electricity Contract Co Design Working Group. The group will design the first Electricity Services Entry Mechanism (ESEM) contracts. The contracts will support investment in Australia's future electricity system.
The 11 members include:
- developers
- electricity traders
- financiers
- retailers
- large energy users.
The group is being brought together by DCCEEW and AusEnergy Services Limited (ASL). The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) will take part as an observer. LEK Consulting will lead the group as an independent facilitator.
The group will meet in over the next few months. They will run workshops, carry out technical analysis and consult with industry. Their report is expected in November. Contracts will be finalised in early 2027.
The group was created following the Energy and Climate Ministerial Council's (ECMC) review of the National Electricity Market's wholesale market settings. The review looked at how Australia's electricity market can support the shift to renewable energy while keeping power reliable and affordable. ECMC is considering ESEM design. The final reforms depend on ECMC approval.
