Karolinska Institutet, KTH and Stockholm University are launching a new investment fund through their respective holding companies for early-stage deep tech ventures. The fund, Trio Impact Invest, is co-financed by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillväxtverket), the European Regional Development Fund and private investors, and will address a critical financing gap for research-intensive ventures based in Sweden.

"Early investment without the need for co-investors will enable the fund to act with speed and flexibility - which is often critical for companies at the very earliest stages," says Johan Weigelt, CEO of KI Holding AB. "The goal is to be able to quickly identify and support promising companies with the potential to make a real societal impact."
The fund is built on the extensive experience and deep insight into the innovation ecosystem, both locally and internationally, possessed by the three universities' holding companies. The combination of capital, industrial expertise, business competence and established networks means that companies with unique competitive advantages will be able to grow systematically.
The fund already has an established pipeline and plans to present its first investments shortly.
