New funding for recreation spaces across City of Melton

Last week, the State Government announced funding from the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to support three key projects across the City of Melton.

At Bridge Road Recreation Reserve, $250,000 was allocated for a multipurpose football and cricket oval, LED lighting and a new floodlit competition standard netball court. This adds to $1.6 million from Council.

Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve will receive $250,000 to upgrade Oval 2 to a senior size oval, adding to $1.03 million from Council.

The Mt Atkinson Active Open Space Precinct will receive $231,000 for competition standard LED lighting on two soccer pitches, with $154,400 from Council.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic welcomed the announcements and said partnerships like these enabled Council to deliver much-needed, quality infrastructure for residents.

"This funding will help ensure the timely delivery of these facilities. They're spaces that help communities connect, support local economies and improve people's health," Cr Kesic said.

"All three projects will enable new community and sporting groups to grow their participation numbers.

"The need to develop an oval for football and cricket, and a netball court at the Bridge Road Recreation Reserve was identified as a priority by Council.

"Expanding Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve's second oval will enable local clubs to increase participation and encourage even more girls and women to join.

"The Mt Atkinson Active Open Space Precinct will support a growing community and give local sporting groups the flexibility to schedule training or competitions during the day or night.

"I'd like to thank the State Government for their support, and look forward to celebrating the completion of these projects."
