New members sought for WA Carers Advisory Council

  • Expressions of interest open for new members of the WA Carers Advisory Council
  • Provides opportunity to represent WA carers and provide advice to the Minister for Community Services
  • Applications open until Friday, 1 September 2023

Expressions of Interest are now open to consider becoming part of the WA Carers Advisory Council.

Carers or people with experience as a carer or knowledge of matters relevant to carers can apply.

The Council provides advice to the Minister for Community Services on the needs of the estimated 320,000 unpaid carers in Western Australia and promotes recognition of the valuable contribution they make to our community.

These carers provide unpaid care to someone who needs help with their day-to-day living due to disability, impairment, mental illness, chronic health condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or drug issue or who is frail and aged.

WA residents with experience as a carer, especially people from Aboriginal or culturally diverse backgrounds, and young carers aged up to 25 years, are encouraged to apply.

The expression of interest is open until 4pm Friday, 1 September 2023.

As stated by Community Services Minister Sabine Winton:

"Unpaid carers make such a valuable contribution to our community and make a huge difference to the lives of people they care for.

"The WA Carers Advisory Council plays such an important role in providing Government with opportunities to engage with unpaid carers and hear about what's important to them.

"It's really important the Council reflects the diversity of people who provide unpaid care and I encourage any carer, particularly those from Aboriginal or culturally diverse backgrounds, to consider becoming a member and submitting an application."
