New Mural Adds Vibrancy To Majors Bay Reserve

The City of Canada Bay is proud to unveil a vibrant new mural at Majors Bay Reserve in Concord. Created by renowned street artist Sam Absurd, the bold and abstract piece adds a dynamic splash of colour to the recently opened jump track.

The mural is the culmination of extensive community engagement, including two on-site drop-in art workshops and a Youth Week program where 14 young people participated in aerosol art sessions. Four of these young participants later joined Sam Absurd in painting the mural during after-school sessions, developing new skills and a deeper sense of ownership of the space.

"I hope the local community feels a sense of belonging as well as pride in the space transformation and new facilities, it is a great and popular space from what I have already seen and hope that the new mural elevates it further." said artist Sam Absurd.

The mural also served as a centrepiece for the Majors Bay Jump Track Jam-a launch event featuring BMX demonstrations, live music, food stalls, and giveaways. The festive atmosphere encouraged locals to come together and enjoy the upgraded facilities at Majors Bay Reserve.

Mayor Michael Megna praised the project as a shining example of community-focused placemaking.

"This mural doesn't just beautify the space-it brings people together. It's a celebration of our local talent, our youth, and the power of creativity to transform public places," said Mayor Megna.

"We're thrilled to see Majors Bay Reserve becoming a true hub for active recreation and community pride."

The mural is now a permanent fixture in the reserve. To find out more about the precinct visit bit.ly/mbrprecinct.
