Mitchell Shire Council will install two new pedestrian crossings in Broadford to improve safety and accessibility for the community.
These works are being delivered in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission's Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.
The crossings will be constructed at the intersection of the High Street service road and Murchison Street, helping provide safer and more convenient crossing points in a busy part of town.
When are the works happening?
Works are planned to begin no earlier than Monday 18 May, subject to Department of Transport and Planning approval, with completion expected by 30 June, weather permitting. Council will provide more information about timelines and disruptions when DTP approvals and permits are obtained.
What to expect during the works
- Reduced speed limits in the area
- Murchison Street and the High Street service road will be reduced to one lane at times during kerb and footpath works
- There will be a temporary closure of Murchison Street between the High Street service road and Gavan Street when the Murchison Street pedestrian crossing is constructed
- There will also be a temporary closure of a small section of the High Street service road near the post office as the High Street service road pedestrian crossing is constructed
- Detours will be in place via High Street, Powlett Street and Gavan Street
- Access to homes, businesses and surrounding streets will be maintained although short delays may occur.
