The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future with a new professional learning program, giving classroom teachers more skills to confidently manage individual learning requirements for students living with a disability and diverse learning needs. The development program includes a commitment to train an additional 200 teachers each year from 2026 to 2028 to ensure they're better equipped to meet the needs of all students. The Department of Education will partner with two universities to provide placements for teachers to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Autism Studies, Graduate Certificate in Special Education or a Microcredential in Inclusive Education Essentials.
It's part of the Crisafulli Government's $221 million More Teachers, Better Education plan that actively addresses workforce shortages, improve classroom support, and deliver better outcomes for students across Queensland.
The Crisafulli Government will invest more than $2.5 million over the next 12 months to support schools to release teachers to undertake this essential professional development, after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government. Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the new program would give teachers the tools, resources and credentials they need to provide a world-class education for the next generation of Queenslanders.
"This was a key election commitment from the Crisafulli Government and we're delivering what we promised," Minister Langbroek said. "Our dedicated classroom teachers across Queensland do a remarkable job and we're supporting them with more practical and targeted training to support all students. "By training more teachers in disability support practices, we will see schools become better placed to deliver strong outcomes for every student. "Queensland students with a disability deserve the same opportunities as every other child to learn, improve and succeed.
"The Crisafulli Government is proud to invest in real support our teachers to improve results in the classroom, after a decade of decline under the former Labor Government.
