Students at three schools in Perth's eastern suburbs are benefitting from modern new science facilities, which have recently been completed.

Education Minister Sabine Winton has today announced the new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) labs at Hampton Senior High School, Eastern Hills Senior High School and Girrawheen Senior High School have been completed, delivering on a 2021 election commitment.

This brings the total number of public schools that have received upgraded science facilities or new STEM labs to over 300 since 2017.

The Cook Government's $1.6 million project at Hampton Senior High School involved refurbishing existing design and technology facilities into a STEM planning room, storage and metal workshop with new welding bays and oxy-acetylene stations.

Existing design and technology facilities at Eastern Hills Senior High School were refurbished into a STEM IT laboratory and 3D printing room as part of a $1.5 million upgrade, which also saw the creation of more integrated and efficient STEM workshop areas at the school.

Both projects were designed by DWA Architects and HS Hyde & Son completed the works.

The $1.2 million project at Girrawheen Senior High School included refurbishing two rooms within the student services block into a multi-purpose STEM space, in addition to reconfiguration of the student reception and two student services offices.

The facilities were designed by Mode Design Corp. Pty Ltd and LKS Construction completed the works.

These upgrades form part of the Cook Government's record investment of $5.4 billion in education infrastructure for Western Australian schools since 2017.

As stated by Education Minister Sabine Winton:

"I'm excited that these three schools in Perth's eastern suburbs now have new science facilities to learn in.

"Modern STEM labs aren't just about better facilities - they're about giving students the tools to explore, experiment, and prepare for the jobs of the future.

"The Cook Government is committed to ensuring Western Australian students are learning in the best possible environments."

As stated by Mirrabooka MLA Meredith Hammat:

"Girrawheen Senior High School has a strong and diverse community, and I'm delighted to see students now have access to modern, purpose-built STEM facilities.

"These upgrades will give students the tools and spaces to experiment, problem-solve, and innovate for years to come."

As stated by Bassendean MLA Dave Kelly:

"Whether it's designing, building or testing new ideas, this new STEM lab at Hampton Senior High School will give students the confidence to build new skills.

"I'm looking forward to seeing local students benefit from these high-quality facilities."
