Tough new penalties will soon be in effect to combat the sale, supply and possession of illegal tobacco or vaping products.
A maximum penalty of $4.2 million for individuals and $21 million for companies may apply for possession of a large commercial quantity of illegal tobacco or vaping products. People involved may also face up to 15 years in prison.
Under the new laws, WA Health's expanded Tobacco and Vape Compliance Unit will have power to close stores suspected of illegal trade for up to 90 days.
In addition, all smoke‑free public places will become vape‑free, helping to reduce exposure to second-hand vape aerosol and protect the community.
