The National Parks and Wildlife Service, in conjunction with the NSW Rural Fire Service, is planning a hazard reduction burn for Nielsen Park at Vaucluse on Wednesday 3 November.
The burn adjacent to Vaucluse Road aims to reduce risk to life and property from potential wildfires and improve the health of the bushland.
All walking tracks and roads within the park closed during the activity will remain closed until it is safe to reopen them.
Motorist are advised to take care if there is reduced visibility due to smoke and to drive to conditions.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) hazard reduction program for 2021 is focused on essential burns to protect park neighbours, assets or significant habitat to ensure ongoing recovery of the wildlife impacted by the summer bushfires.
Undertaking burns when conditions are right to ensure they are safe and effective is an important part of managing the potential risk of bushfire to communities and the environment before next summer. This work also provides firefighters safe zones and access where they can defend properties, should a bushfire occur.
All burns across New South Wales will continue to be coordinated with the Rural Fire Service (RFS) to ensure the impact on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
