Not very good behaviour

Police have suspended a man’s licence after he was caught travelling almost 50km/h over the limit while driving on a VicRoads imposed good behaviour bond, Victoria Police say.

Geelong Highway Patrol officers were patrolling on the Princes Highway at Moriac about 3.15pm yesterday when they detected a car travelling at an alleged speed of 144km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police issued the driver, a 20-year-old Inverleigh man, with a $661 on-the-spot fine and added six demerit points to his licence.

When asked why he was speeding, he stated he was driving fast to meet up with his boss who was on his way out for the day.

The man was driving under a demerit point good behaviour bond where even one demerit point would mean the suspension of his licence for six months from VicRoads.

The VicRoads imposed six month loss of licence will now add to the six month suspension he earned on the Princes Freeway, meaning he has effectively lost his licence for 12 months.

This is a timely reminder to plan journeys and leave early heading into a busy summer for the Bellarine and Surf Coast.

Police will be out performing speed, alcohol and drug tests over this period.
