The Electric Vehicle Council has commended the New South Wales Government for its goal to reduce emissions by 70 per cent by 2035, which includes national leadership in the electric vehicle transition.
The NSW Government has recognised that a relatively rapid transition to electric vehicles is a critical aspect of hitting its goal.
"The NSW Government has been quicker than others to recognise if you want to hit proper emission reduction targets you need strong measures to transition to electric vehicles," Electric Vehicle Council CEO Behyad Jafari said.
"For the past two years they have been the Electric Vehicle Council's top-rated state in terms of policy action to support EV take up.
"New South Wales is currently the only state with a targeted fleet incentive and, although there is much work to do, it leads the country in terms of policies to support rolling out charging infrastructure in apartments.
"New South Wales is also a leader in transitioning to electric buses, including its recent $3 billion plan to support e-bus manufacturing, charging and fleet conversion.
"Because the NSW Government has concrete policies to replace combustion engine vehicles with EVs it means the target they have announced today has credibility.
"Targets are only as valuable as the plan to achieve them. The NSW Government has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to take real action and the people of NSW are better off for it."
