Territorians urged to pledge to Drive so others survive

National Road Safety Week kicks off today, Sunday 5 May shining a light on road safety and encouraging Australians to make positive decisions to help keep ourselves and others safe on the road.
The Territory Labor Government has invested over $1.3 billion in sealing and upgrading our major highways since 2016, with a further investment of $91.8 million as part of its Road Safety Program in 2023-24.
This includes $6.5 million for pedestrian road safety infrastructure, $1.67 million towards road safety education and awareness activities, and $2.76 million for DriveSafe, the Territory Government's driver licencing education program.
All Territorians are encouraged to show their support for National Road Safety Week by taking the pledge and wearing a road safety yellow ribbon to raise awareness and encourage conversations about being part of a safe road culture.
In support of National Road Safety Week, local landmarks will be lit up in yellow and Territory drivers urged to pledge to Drive so others survive.
On average, 40 people are killed and around 480 people are seriously injured on Territory roads every year. This year, 20 people have already tragically lost their lives on our roads.
The Territory Labor Government will be releasing the next Towards Zero Safety Action Plan 2024-2028 by mid-year following Towards Zero round tables to get feedback from key road safety stakeholders and communities in Darwin and Alice Springs.
