Northwestern University Dance Marathon (NUDM) has announced Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation as its 2026 primary benefactor. The Chicago-based non-profit supports children battling cancer and their families with holistic, family-centered services that address the emotional, financial, psychosocial and educational challenges of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
Funds raised through the 2026 NUDM campaign will support Bear Necessities' wide range of programs. This includes a $5,000 annual scholarship through the Hope Education Scholarship Program, awarded to one student each year for the next 20 years. Donations will also enhance the organization's "Bear Hugs" initiative, which provides customized experiences and gifts to children undergoing treatment. The NUDM grant will also help the charity expand its mental health counseling services over the next three years. In addition, $10,000 will be allocated specifically for pediatric cancer research.
NUDM continues its long-standing partnership with the Evanston Community Foundation (ECF), its secondary beneficiary for the 29th consecutive year. ECF supports the Evanston area through local grantmaking that strengthens families, supports youth and builds community resilience.
Now in its 52nd year, Northwestern University Dance Marathon is one of the largest independent student-run philanthropies in the country, raising more than $23 million. NUDM sustains yearlong fundraising and service campaigns which ultimately culminate in a 15-hour marathon, in which more than 800 dancers round out their collective efforts. The date for NUDM 2025 will be announced during Northwestern's winter quarter.
