Official name announced for Treeby's first school

  • New primary school for Perth's southern suburbs officially named Treeby Primary School
  • Community consulted on three options, with the most popular name announced today
  • The $20.3 million school will officially open in 2022 for students from kindergarten to Year 6
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery today announced 'Treeby Primary School' as the official name of the new school opening in the southern suburb of Treeby in 2022.

Treeby Primary School was the popular choice among the local community who participated in a survey to give their views on the school name.

The new primary school is currently under construction, and scheduled to be completed in November 2021 and opened for the start of the 2022 school year.

When complete, the school - built at a cost of $20.3 million - will accommodate 540 students from kindergarten to Year 6.

The new school will feature an early childhood teaching block, an arts and science block, a library and staffroom block, an administration building with a dental therapy centre, car parking and landscaping.

Treeby Primary School will provide for the new residential development and ease enrolment pressure on nearby Atwell Primary School.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"I know families will be proud to send their children to this wonderful new school which will provide them with a high-quality education in state-of-the-art facilities.

"The suburb of Treeby was named after a pioneer market gardening family and that connection to the past is reflected in the wishes of the community who were consulted during the process of naming the school."

As stated by Jandakot MLA Yaz Mubarakai:

"This new school is the result of years of hard work and from next year we will have this outstanding modern learning environment available for our children.

"Treeby is a growing community for young families so this is a terrific milestone for the electorate of Jandakot. I can't wait to see students learning in this incredible new school."
