Operation Ronga

Northern Territory Police have concluded Operation Ronga which commenced on 9 April 2021 to target and disrupt the supply of prohibited drugs and liquor into remote communities in East Arnhem.

During the operation members from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk and the Dog Operations Unit conducted searches, screenings, traffic operations and community engagement exercises. The following results were achieved:

  • 1147 grams of cannabis seized
  • 96.5 litres of liquor seized
  • 8 x Arrests
  • 8 x Notice to appear (drug and traffic offending)
  • 12 x Drug infringement notices
  • 8 x Liquor infringement notices
  • 3 x Summary infringement notices
  • 64 x Traffic infringement notices
  • 2105 x people screened by drug detection dog 'Astra'
  • 4 x Drug detection dog presentations at local schools

The operation concluded on 21 May 2021.

Senior Sergeant Daniel Whitfield-Jones said, "Operation Ronga has concluded successfully and I congratulate the members involved. Joint operations like this are just one of the methods used by police to disrupt the supply of prohibited drugs and alcohol in vulnerable communities. NT police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our communities."
