Outdoor Pool Hours Extended During Heatwave

With extreme heat forecast across parts of Victoria this week, including Mitchell Shire, we're extending access to free and air-conditioned places to help the community stay safe and cool.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe heatwave warning, with very hot conditions expected through to Friday and daytime temperatures forecast to reach the high 30s and low 40s.

Extended outdoor pool hours

Council's outdoor pools will be open from 11am to 8pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with free entry including:

  • Seymour War Memorial Pool
  • Tallarook Outdoor Pool
  • Broadford Outdoor Pool

The Community Bank Adventure Playground and Splash Park in Wallan will also be open from 10am to 8pm.

Other places to keep cool

Our Customer and Library Service Centres are cool, air-conditioned spaces where people can take a break and enjoy a free coffee during hot weather.

Residents can also visit Council's indoor leisure facilities, including the Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre and Kilmore Leisure Centre, which are open from 6am to 9pm Monday to Thursday and 6am to 7.30pm on Friday. Entry fees apply.

Take care in extreme heat

Prolonged periods of heat can increase health risks, particularly for older people, babies and young children, pregnant women, and people with existing health conditions or limited ways to keep cool.

Council encourages everyone to:

  • stay cool indoors or visit air-conditioned places
  • drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty
  • check in on family, friends and neighbours
  • never leave people or pets in parked cars
