Over 50s Festival Running Throughout October

Yarra Ranges Shire Council

Older adults will be able to participate in storytelling, social events, festivals and tours through October as part of the annual Over 50s Festival.

The festival will see local businesses, community groups and organisations open their doors to adults over 50, and Council has produced a booklet as a useful guide to what's on offer.

Yarra Ranges Mayor, Jim Child, encouraged everyone over 50 to get involved.

"Older adults, such as myself, are valuable members of the community, contributing to the economy, to local groups, and to the story of the region," he said.

"October is a time where we get to celebrate over 50s in the community, and our staff have been working to compile dozens of events, throughout the Yarra Ranges, that everyone can participate in.

"Visit yarraranges.vic.gov.au/over50s to find out more, or pick up a copy of our festival booklet from any of our community links or libraries, and sign up for events."

From 5-12 October, Victorian Seniors Card holders can travel on public transport for free using their myki, on trains, trams, buss, V/Line train and coaches, and some regional bus services outside of the myki network.

On Sunday, 5 October, Celebration Day will be held from 12pm-7pm at Federation Square, with music, workshops, interactive displays and table tennis games.

Events include tea parties, heritage festivals, tours of historic sites, musical performances, writers' groups and movie screenings, with many of the events free-of-charge to enter.
