OWM Unveils 2022 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities

The NIST Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) is pleased to announce the release of the 2022 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities (SP 2200-02).

This publication includes a summary of changes made to the 2021 NIST Handbook 44, Specifications, Tolerances and Other Technical Requirements for Commercial Weighing and Measuring Devices, the 2021 NIST Handbook 130 Uniform Laws and Regulations in the Areas of Legal Metrology and Engine Fuel Quality, and the 2020 NIST Handbook 133, Checking the Net Contents of Packaged Goods.

The 2022 NIST Summary provides an archival record of proposals and associated actions with the goal of assisting the weights and measures community in consistently interpreting and implementing changes to NIST Handbooks 44, 130, and 133. This includes a NIST OWM high-level summarization of technical aspects, as well as an OWM detailed analysis including background information, regional association reporting, and recommendations for items that were proposed for changes to these NIST Handbooks at the National Conference of Weights and Measures (NCWM).

The 2023 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities will reflect a summary of changes made to the 2023 NIST Handbooks. Please watch for our announcement for the release of the 2023 NIST Summary of U.S. Legal Metrology Activities at the end of this year.
