Pearcedale Reserve is set to become a vibrant, inclusive and family-friendly destination, with new play opportunities, upgraded facilities and inviting spaces to gather.
Construction is now underway on a $1.3 million Playground and Skate Park upgrade shaped by strong community support. Nearly 1,000 locals - including young people and families - shared their feedback during last year's consultation, helping bring the project's design to life.
City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen says "Community input is vital to delivering spaces and places that truly reflect local needs. It was fantastic to see the Pearcedale community have their say and for Council to respond and deliver what matters most to them. Projects like this show how strong engagement helps create places our communities can enjoy now and into the future."
Deputy Mayor Michelle Crowther adds "The Pearcedale community played a key role in shaping this upgrade, telling us they wanted more diverse play areas, improved skate features and better places to gather. Council have listened and responded, and this new design delivers exactly what local families and young people asked for."
The upgrade will include:
- a new district-level playground
- a larger extended street skate area and repairs to the existing skate bowl to improve safety
- refurbishments to the gravel pump track for BMX riders
- a new picnic shelter with barbecue and additional seating
- new concrete paths and improved drainage
- extensive garden bed and tree planting.
Pearcedale Reserve's upgraded Playground and Skatepark is jointly funded by the City of Casey and Victorian State Government, with works expected to be completed later this year.
New playgrounds opened
This month Council also opened two new playgrounds at Max Pawsey Reserve in Narre Warren and Betula Reserve in Doveton, with both designs shaped by local community feedback.
The Max Pawsey playground includes a brand-new district play space designed for all ages and abilities with a nature play area, imaginative creek with water play, inclusive seesaw and a new half basketball court.
Surrounded by River Red Gums, Betula Reserve Playground includes a sky tower for canopy views, a swing set for all ages and abilities, and a nature play circuit incorporating timber steppers, logs and stepping stones.
