- Seymour Whyte, Civmec and Aurecon named preferred alliance team to develop and design the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct
- Strong Western Australian-based design and construction team
- Alliance team will integrate ideas and feedback from community consultation
- Project Steering Committee to be chaired by Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier
Detailed design development of the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct will begin shortly with Seymour Whyte Constructions, Civmec Construction & Engineering and Aurecon Australasia announced as the preferred alliance team following a competitive tender process.
The alliance, comprising internationally renowned architects along with Western Australian manufacturers and builders, will be tasked with design, development, site investigations and early works preparation.
The alliance team are the same contractors behind the landmark Boorloo Bridge project, which has become an iconic feature on Perth's skyline.
The Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct is a key election commitment to realise Burswood's full potential for sport and recreation, creating a true multi-purpose entertainment precinct, delivering benefits for both the local community and everyday park users, as well as boosting the State's capacity to host a range of arts, cultural and sporting events.
It will include a new outdoor amphitheatre with capacity for 15,000 to 20,000 people, complementing nearby existing venues and entertainment infrastructure, such as Optus Stadium, Crown Perth and the surrounds.
Concept development will consider facilities to support live music and sporting events, including an annual Supercars event, cycling criterium racing and paralympic racing. Outside of official events, the precinct will be open to the entire community year-round, as it is now.
A key priority is the enhancement of the local environment through landscape improvements and renewal, including optimising green spaces, precinct connectivity and maximising the river setting.
The preferred alliance, with their construction experience on the new Boorloo Bridge as well as the Matagarup Bridge in the area, will integrate key insights from recent community and stakeholder consultation, which garnered hundreds of ideas, including pop-up events for music, food and wine festivals, space for smaller gigs and local shows, sports such as cycling and roller derby, as well as provision for urban forest development and nature playgrounds.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Daniel Pastorelli remains as government lead for the project and will chair the Project Steering Committee consisting of members from Transport, Tourism, Venues West and Burswood Park.
Precinct planning and design will begin upon award of the contract, with early works to commence later this year and precinct construction work expected to be complete in 2027.
Further stakeholder and community input will be invited as the design progresses in coming months, and people are encouraged to register for project updates via https://www.pesp.wa.gov.au/
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The new multi-purpose Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct at Burswood Park will elevate Western Australia's standing as a premier place for sport and entertainment.
"The preferred alliance team announced today have delivered some of our most iconic projects including the new locally made Boorloo Bridge, which has become an incredible piece of public infrastructure.
"This project will deliver significant economic benefits to the State, as well as deliver quality public infrastructure for the local and wider community to benefit from for decades to come.
"As we look along the Burswood Peninsula there is a significant suite of public infrastructure that has been built over the past decade, whether it be locally built bridges, the transformation of parklands or the completion of Optus Stadium and major transport infrastructure, they have all been delivered with the community's benefit in mind.
"The Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct will be another cornerstone project to highlight WA's local capability and capacity and represents significant jobs and opportunities for WA workers and business.
"I'm pleased the competitive tender process resulted in a strong Western Australian based team who can put WA-made at the forefront of this project."
As stated by Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Daniel Pastorelli:
"Stakeholder and community consultation has generated hundreds of ideas which will inform how the precinct will be designed to ensure it's used by as many Western Australians and visitors as possible.
"I want to thank everyone for their feedback, ideas and questions through this initial round of community consultation - a report will be finalised and released in coming weeks.
"The alliance team will be asked to respond to these ideas through the design and development stage and I look forward to working with this locally-based team to deliver for WA.
"The WA Government is committed to delivering this key election commitment, to help diversify the WA economy, creating new local jobs for future generations and building a world-class entertainment precinct that promotes the best of WA to the world."
