Perth Park Assessment Released by Infrastructure WA

  • Infrastructure Western Australia hands down its assessment of Perth Park
  • Report found Government has strong imperative and mandate to deliver Perth Park
  • Assessment reinforced independent business case findings that Perth Park will deliver positive economic returns for WA
  • Perth Park will become a multi-purpose venue supporting entertainment, sport, culture and community use

The State Government has today released Infrastructure Western Australia's (IWA) assessment report of Perth Park.

The assessment report was prepared in line with IWA's legislative function to assess and report to the government on major infrastructure proposals.

The report backed in the findings of the independent ACIL Allen business case, which found Perth Park would deliver significant economic returns to Western Australia, with a benefit cost ratio of 1.84 undiscounted.

It also stated the project had a "strong imperative and mandate" given it was a key election commitment of the WA Labor Government and stacks up on an economic basis.

Perth Park will elevate the Burswood Peninsula into a world-class precinct for entertainment and sport, complementing existing facilities including Optus Stadium, Crown Perth, Belmont Park Racecourse and the State Tennis Centre.

The project will deliver a new outdoor music amphitheatre, a multi-use track for cycling and an annual motorsport event, and a new multi-purpose building.

A major landscaping plan will see the tree canopy more than doubled, including the retention of a large number of existing trees, new shared paths throughout the park, and a range of other public amenities that will enhance community use year-round.

The State Government is also progressing procurement for private sector investment into a new hospitality venue at Perth Park. The assessment report can be found on the IWA website.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The release of the Infrastructure WA assessment is another important milestone in the delivery of this exciting project for WA.

"Perth Park will deliver significant economic benefits to WA, help to diversify the economy, create jobs and elevate Burswood Peninsula into a truly world-class destination for entertainment, sport and community events.

"IWA's feedback has been incorporated into the ongoing work of the project team, as we finalise the design and prepare to move into major construction mode."

As stated by Perth Park Steering Committee Chair and Cabinet Secretary Daniel Pastorelli:

"I welcome the release of the IWA assessment into Perth Park and thank them for their comments and feedback.

"The report reaffirms the findings of the independent ACIL Allen business case, which found Perth Park would deliver strong economic benefits to the people of WA.

"The assessment also concluded the project had a strong imperative and mandate for delivery, and we look forward to progressing to the next steps."
