A sculpture from the first artist to be appointed officially for the Second World War is going to auction completely unreserved with all bids starting at just $1 and many locals want to return the sculpture back to its place of origin in Western Australia.
Lyndon Dadswell was one of Australia's most influential and important war sculptors, being the first sculptor to be appointed as an official war artist of the Second World War.
"On offer we have a significant and history rich piece that came from one of the most influential artists from the Second World War," said Mr. Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer for Lloyds Auctions.
The Wildflower State sculpture is an important part of Perth's heritage and was returned to NSW, the state of its creation.
According to Lyndon Dadswell the sculpture depicts trading, savings and development wedded to the Flora and Fauna of West Australia.
"This is an iconic piece and is the only surviving public art by Lyndon Dadswell from Perth's Heritage," continued Mr. Hames.
The sculpture is currently on loan to Macquarie University in Sydney and is ready to find a home with a new custodian.
"We have received interest from all over the country including state libraries and museums who are considering purchasing the sculpture with the aim to preserve important Australian history," said Mr, Hames.
"We have had many enquiries from archives in Western Australia wanting to bring the sculpture back to its home," continued Mr. Hames.
The sculpture goes under the hammer on 31st August at 7:00pm.
