Playspace Upgrades Coming To Monash Reserves

Princes Highway Reserve playspace 2026

Monash is investing in better outdoor spaces for our community, with $3 million in Council's 2026/27 budget for new playspaces at:

  • Princes Highway Reserve in Oakleigh East
  • Gladeswood Reserve in Mulgrave
  • Queens Parade Reserve in Ashwood.

The upgrades are supported by $678,650 from round one of the Victorian Government's Pick My Park program.

Princes Highway Reserve, Oakleigh East

What's coming

Princes Highway Reserve will be upgraded into a large, district-level playspace designed for a wide range of ages and abilities.

The upgrade will include:

  • A mix of traditional and nature-based play (climbing, balancing and imaginative play)
  • Accessible play features to support inclusion
  • Shaded areas and seating for families and carers
  • Social area with picnic shelter and BBQ
  • Lawn space and landscaping to create a greener, more comfortable park.

Gladeswood Reserve, Mulgrave

What's coming this year

Gladeswood Reserve playspace will be relocated to the southern area of the reserve and expanded into a district-level playspace for all ages and abilities with:

  • An inclusive and accessible playspace
  • A dedicated toddler area
  • Shaded areas
  • Sustainable landscaping
  • A nature play trail and forest area for informal play
  • Sensory play elements

What will be delivered in future stages

To deliver the highest-priority improvements now, some elements shared in the draft concept design will be delivered in future stages instead of this year.

These include:

  • BBQ facilities
  • Shelter
  • Fitness hub
  • Multi-sport court
  • Public toilets

These elements will be considered in future Council budget processes, and we will continue to explore other funding opportunities.

Queens Parade Reserve, Ashwood

What's coming

Queens Parade Reserve will be upgraded into a local-level playspace for nearby families, with a focus on younger children. It includes:

  • Interactive play equipment for younger children
  • Opportunities for group and social play
  • Improved paths and seating.

What happens next

Local residents will receive updates, including letters, closer to the start of construction on any impacts.

These projects will create more inclusive, accessible and engaging places for people of all ages to play, connect and spend time outdoors.
