Police arrest man after Dry Creek crash

PD Duke has arrested a man who ran from his crashed car at Dry Creek this morning.

At 4.25am Monday 8 January police were called to the Port River Expressway after a silver Mazda that had been travelling east crashed into the off-ramp barrier at the intersection with the Northern Connector.

Staff from the Traffic Management Centre observed the driver on camera get out and run from the crashed car.

Northern District patrols and police dog Duke attended the scene and found that the car was baring false number plates. Numerous other number plates were located in the vehicle, including some made of paper! Also in the car police found a sledgehammer, hammer and a metal pole.

PD Duke searched the area, locating the driver, 31-year-old Craigmore man, hiding under the bridge amongst reeds. He was arrested and has been taken to the LMH for assessment.

He is expected to be charged with a number of traffic offences, including driving disqualified. The car was towed from the scene.
