Police charge man after Avondale Heights collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal crash in Avondale Heights last year.

Emergency services were called to Military Road following reports of a collision between a car and motorbike about 3.50pm on 21 October 2021.

The driver of the car, a 71-year-old Maidstone man, formally of Maribyrnong, has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, failing to give way and careless driving.

The passenger on the motorcycle, a 25-year-old Beveridge woman, died at the scene.

The rider, a 24-year-old Heidelberg Heights man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the car stopped at the scene.

The 71-year-old man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday, 22 August.
