Police charge man after boarding house fire - Campsie

A man has been charged after he allegedly broke into a room at a boarding house and deliberately lit a fire.

Just before 4pm on Wednesday (25 September 2019), emergency services were called a boarding house in Eighth Avenue Campsie after reports of a break-in.

On arrival, police found the building well alight.

Fire crews on scene were able to extinguish the blaze and there are no reports of injuries.

A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced.

A short time later, police arrested a 56-year-old man at a unit nearby and he was taken to Campsie Police Station.

The man was charged with break, enter and commit serious indictable offence (fire), destroy/damage property by fire, armed with intent to cause serious indictable offence, destroy or damage property and intimidation.

He was refused bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 26 September 2019).
