Police Charge Man After Fire - Rydalmere

Police have charged a man following an investigation into a suspicious fire in Sydney's west last month.

Just after 10pm on Sunday 17 March 2024, emergency services were called to Victoria Road, Rydalmere, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Ryde Police Area Command arrived to find a vehicle in the carpark of a unit complex well alight.

All residents were evacuated and there were no reports of injuries.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze; however, the vehicle was destroyed.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

Following inquiries police arrested a 49-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Concord Hospital.

Following his release from hospital about 9.30am today (Thursday 4 April 2024), he was taken to Ryde Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire / explosion, attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today (Thursday 4 April 2024).
