Police charge man over hotel fire - Monaro

A man has been charged following an investigation into a suspicious fire in the state's south last year.

About 4.20am on Saturday 25 June 2022, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a hotel on Maybe Street, Bombala.

Fire crews attended and extinguished the blaze, however the property sustained extensive damage.

Officers from Monaro Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic police.

The cause of the fire was determined as suspicious, and officers established Strike Force Cadboll to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives charged a 39-year-old man from Ambarvale yesterday (Friday 6 January 2023).

He was charged with damage property by fire/explosive – more than $15,000 and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

The man will appear before Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday 20 February 2023.
