Police charge two over armed robbery at Moree

Two men will appear in court today charged after allegedly robbing a third man at knifepoint in the state's north.

About 2am yesterday (Thursday 4 February 2021), a 50-year-old man attended a home on Florence Avenue, Moree, where he was confronted by two men, armed with knives and a pickaxe.

The pair demanded money before stealing the man's phone, cigarettes and money.

He was not physically injured and fled the home, notifying police.

Officers from New England Police District commenced an investigation and following inquiries, arrested a 27-year-old man at the home about 7.30am.

A short time later, a 51-year-old man was arrested on Chester Street. He was in possession of a pickaxe which has been seized for forensic examination.

Both men were taken to Moree Police Station.

The younger man was charged with two counts of aggravated enter dwelling with intent, two counts of stalk/ intimidate intend fear physical harm, break and enter intend to commit serious indictable offence, aggravated robbery with offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and robbery armed with offensive weapon.

The older man was charged with aggravated robbery with offensive weapon, possess offensive implement in a public place, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, and robbery armed with offensive weapon.

Both men were bail refused to appear at Moree Local Court today (Friday 5 February 2021).
