Police charge woman after death of man in CBD

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a woman with murder following a fatal stabbing in Melbourne over the weekend.

The 43-year-old woman has been charged with one count each of murder and affray.

The charges follow a call to police about a group of people fighting on King Street on Saturday 10 October just after 9.30pm.

When police arrived a 46-year-old man was located with serious injuries and was transported to hospital where he later died.

Detectives are investigating whether the incident is connected to the discovery of an injured man at the base of a fire escape at a hotel in Melbourne Sunday morning.

On this occasion emergency services were again called to the King Street premises following reports a man had fallen just before 3am.

The seriously injured man was taken to hospital and remains under police guard.

It is believed all parties are known to one other.

The Melbourne woman has been held over to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court today, Monday 12 October.

Police have a number of follow up enquiries to make in relation to another man who is believed to be involved and remains outstanding.
