Police Dog Utah Arrest at Mount Pleasant

Fremantle and Murdoch Police Officers with the assistance of the Canine Unit arrested a 24-year-old man on Sunday afternoon (19 April 2020), after an unprovoked attack on a 77-year-old man in Mount Pleasant.

Around 4pm, a 77-year-old man was walking along the river foreshore on The Esplanade when a man approached him. It is alleged the 24-year-old man verbally abused the victim before spitting on him several times and walking off.

The victim, who is partially deaf, was assisted by members of the public at the scene as he was visibly shaken after the assault. It is further alleged the 24-year-old man began to pick fights with other people as he fled the area.

Police Dog Utah was deployed to assist in locating the 24-year-old man. PD Utah tracked the man and located him hiding near a café at Deep Water Point.

The 24-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with 'Aggravated Common Assault'. He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court yesterday, Monday 20 April 2020, and is next due to appear in the same court on Tuesday 28 April 2020.
