Police investigate child approach near Taree

Investigators are appealing for information after a teenage girl was followed while jogging near her home in Tinonee yesterday.

Police have been told just before 8pm yesterday (Wednesday 19 February 2020), a 16-year-old girl was jogging around the township of Tinonee, about 13km south of Taree, when she noticed a man following her north down Manchester Street.

The teenager began to sprint home, with the man sprinting after her. It was not until she was almost home that he stopped following her. The girl told her parents who reported the matter to police.

Officers from Manning/Great Lakes Police District have commenced an investigation, and as inquiries continue, are appealing for anyone who may have information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to come forward.

The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, aged between 25 and 30, with short dark brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark coloured t-shirt and dark knee length shorts.
