Rockdale Centre Masterplan: Bayside

Bayside Council has unveiled a bold and forward-thinking draft Masterplan for the Rockdale Town Centre, laying out an exciting long-term vision to guide growth, renewal and opportunity over the next 10 to 15 years.

With Bayside forecast to welcome more than 10,000 new homes in just the next five years, Council is taking decisive action to ensure the infrastructure, public spaces and community services grow in step with our population. This is about planning not just for more people, but for a better quality of life for everyone who calls Bayside home.

At the heart of the Masterplan is a vision to transform Rockdale into a vibrant, connected and highly liveable centre, one with a strong civic and community focus. Think lively streets, welcoming public plazas, and green open spaces where people can gather, relax and celebrate. The plan also embraces a mix of diverse housing options, improved transport connections, and upgraded community facilities, creating a centre that is dynamic, inclusive and built for the future.

The Rockdale Centre Masterplan will go on public exhibition on Monday 20 April 2026, opening the door for the community to play a vital role in shaping what comes next. This is a genuine opportunity for residents, local businesses and stakeholders to have their say and help refine the vision.

Council's engagement process will provide clear, accessible and easy-to-understand information about the draft plan and what it means for the future of Rockdale. The community will be invited to share feedback on the proposed vision, guiding principles and key strategies, covering important areas such as housing, open space, transport, sustainability and community infrastructure.

This is more than a plan, it's a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine Rockdale as a thriving, people-focused centre. Council is encouraging everyone to get involved, have their say, and be part of shaping a bold and exciting future for Rockdale.

Mayor Edward McDougall said:
