Police Lay Armed Robbery Charges At Springfield

Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch have charged three men after a man was threatened and had his motorbike stolen from a shopping centre carpark in Springfield overnight, 12 May.

Around 7.10pm officers from the Ipswich Tactical Crime Squad, Ipswich Dog Squad and Springfield Station were called to Southern Cross Circuit following reports a blue Yamaha MTN660 had allegedly been loaded into the back of a 2017 Mitsubishi Triton by three men.

A 25-year-old Redbank Plains man has told police when he approached the vehicle he was allegedly threatened with a firearm before the offenders left the scene.

He was not physically injured.

The vehicle, which was stolen from a Tancred Place address on 3 May, was tracked by POLAIR to Redbank Plains where a tyre deflation device was deployed, stinging the vehicle.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on Regents Drive before all three occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Two men were arrested at a nearby address while a third man was tracked by PD Iggy to a sports field on Fernbrooke Boulevard where he was arrested.

A 31-year-old Redbank Plains man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and possession of a knife, a 24-year-old Redbank Plains man has been charged with one count of armed robbery, and a 31-year-old Bundamba man has been charged with one count of armed robbery and possessing dangerous drugs.

All three offenders have been remanded to appear before the Ipswich Magistrates Court on 27 May.

Operation Yankee Forge is a six-month, district-led, statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences, including unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.

The operation will enhance policing activities across Queensland to reduce victim numbers and strengthen community safety.

Police regions, supported by specialist squads, will undertake coordinated disruption activities across the state. Police will target high-harm offenders and work closely with partner agencies to ensure offenders are held accountable. With a strong focus on crime prevention, police will be highly visible as they prevent, disrupt and investigate offending, with particular emphasis on unlawful use, robbery and unlawful entry.

The operation will be locally led and centrally coordinated, leveraging the knowledge and experience of officers who know their communities best.
