A man will appear in court today charged after a replica pistol and knives were allegedly located in a vehicle in the state's north-east earlier this month.
On Wednesday 4 August 2021, officers from Oxley Police District located a vehicle with false number plates in the carpark of a business at Conadilly Street at Gunnedah.
Officers observed a large quantity of items within the vehicle, including a replica firearm in the front passenger footwell.
In a subsequent search of the purple BMW, police located multiple credit cards, jewellery, two knives, a bow and arrow and expandable baton.
The vehicle, and all items found inside, were seized and subject to further examination.
Officers from the Oxley Proactive Crime Team, together with Tamworth detectives, subsequently commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attended a home at Gunnedah and arrested a 27-year-old man located hiding underneath an adjacent premise about 10am yesterday (Sunday 23 August 2021).
The man was taken to Gunnedah Police Station and charged with six offences including; possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess unauthorised pistol, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, not comply with noticed direction re s 7/8/9 - COVID-19 and enter inclosed land not presc premises without lawful excuse.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Monday 23 August 2021).
Investigations are continuing.
