Police lay charges - Aggravated robberies in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested six youths in relation to aggravated robberies in the Northern Suburbs on Saturday.

At around 6:20pm, five youths attended a supermarket in Malak and allegedly stole a quantity of alcohol. One of the youths has then allegedly threated an employee with an edged weapon before the group fled the scene.

The group have allegedly committed a number of violent offences throughout the night in Malak, before being joined by a sixth youth, and committing offences in Casuarina. The incidents included assaulting a man and stealing his vehicle on Patterson Street and threatening two females in a park.

Strike Force Trident detectives arrested all six youths that night.

A 13-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 1 x aggravated robbery
  • 1 x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x assault with intent to steal
  • 1 x serious breach of bail

He was remanded to appear in court today.

A 14-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 3 x aggravated robbery
  • 1 x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x assault with intent to steal
  • 1 x stealing

He was remanded to appear in court today.

A 15-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 3 x aggravated robbery
  • 1 x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x assault with intent to steal
  • 1 x stealing
  • 1 x serious breach of bail

He was remanded to appear in court today.

A 12-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 3 x aggravated robbery
  • 1 x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x assault with intent to steal
  • 1 x possess controlled weapon

He was bailed to appear in court on 18 March 2022.

A 15-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 1 x aggravated robbery

He was remanded to appear in court today.

A 14-year-old male was charged with the following offences:

  • 2 x aggravated robbery
  • 1 x aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • 1 x assault with intent to steal

He was bailed to appear in court on 14 March 2022.

Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Bland said, "These were threatening and confronting incidents.

"The community deserves to be able go about their lives without being threatened and attacked, as do business owners and their staff."
