Police lay charges - Crime Series - Nightcliff

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a crime series in Nightcliff and Coconut Grove earlier this week.

On the 18 December 2023, a 20-year-old man and another male co-offender, were allegedly involved in multiple violent incidents between the hours of 6:30pm and 10pm.

The pair were allegedly involved in stealing and criminal damage incidents at supermarkets in Nightcliff and a business on Bagot Road as well as assault and stealing incidents on Ferntree Street and Progress Drive, Nightcliff and Dick Ward Drive, Coconut Grove.

In the incident from Progress Drive, a 76-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by the pair as they attempted to steal her vehicle before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident began investigations, and at 12:20am yesterday, the 20-year-old man was arrested at a residence in Ludmilla without incident. He has since been charged with:

  • Assault with intent to steal x 2
  • Theft x 2
  • Damage to property x 2
  • Trespass on enclosed premises
  • Armed with offensive weapon
  • Aggravated assault
  • Drive, ride / use motor vehicle without consent
  • Breach of bail

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said "Investigations are still underway to locate the second offender, who we have already identified.
