Police lay charges over property offences/assaults - Palmerston

Northern Territory Police have charged 3 youths in relation to property offences around Palmerston earlier this week.

About 10:30pm on 8 November, the youths, aged 13, 16 and 17, attended a shopping centre on Temple Terrace and allegedly assaulted an employee before fleeing the scene.

They then attended a nearby service station and stole a number of small items before leaving.

They then attended a business on Essington Ave and allegedly damaged a parked vehicle before being confronted by the owner.

One of the youths allegedly assaulted the owner before all 3 fled.

Detectives from Strike Force Trident identified all 3 youths with the assistance of CCTV operators. Detectives, along with the Dog Operations Unit, attended residences yesterday and arrested all those involved.

The 13-year-old was charged with:

  • Trespass on premises x 1
  • Aggravated assault x 2
  • Stealing x 1
  • Engage in violent conduct x 2
  • Damage to property x 1

The 16-year-old was charged with:

  • Trespass on premises x 1
  • Aggravated assault x 1
  • Stealing x 2
  • Engage in violent conduct x 1
  • Unlawfully possess property x 1
  • Serious breach of bail x 1

The 17-year-old was charged with:

  • Aggravated assault x 1
  • Damage to property x 1
  • Trespass on premises x 1
  • Stealing x 1
  • Engage in violent conduct x 2
  • Serious breach of bail x 1

All 3 were remanded to appear in court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said "Vigilant CCTV operators allowed us to quickly identify all those involved.

"These were senseless, cowardly attacks on unsuspecting community members.
