Police make arrest after public place shooting - Canley Vale

One man has been charged as part of an investigation into a public place shooting in Sydney's west overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Carcoola Street address in Canley Vale, just after 7.30pm (Tuesday 8 September 2020), following reports that shots had been fired.

Officers from Fairfield Police Area Command attended and were told that five unknown males entered the house and struck a 49-year-old man to the head with a firearm.

A second man chased the males from the property before two shots were fired in the direction of the building. The males were seen leaving in a blue sedan.

The 49-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for cuts to his head. No other injuries were reported.

A crime scene was established, and the house was searched, with officers locating a machete, prescription medication and cannabis in one of the bedrooms.

Shortly after the incident, a 22-year-old man, believed to be a resident, returned to the house and allegedly refused to cooperate with police.

He was arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with two counts of resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance, and possess prohibited drug.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday 30 September 2020.

As part of ongoing inquiries, police would like to speak with five males who may be able to assist with the investigation. They are described as Pacific Islander/ Maori in appearance

Police are also urging anyone with information about the shooting, or with dashcam footage, to contact police.

Police believe the shooting was targeted.
