Police make arrest - Drug and weapon offences in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have arrested two people in relation to drug and weapon offences in Alice Springs.

Operation Beale was established on 31 December 2021 to investigate and disrupt illicit drug supply into the greater Alice Springs region.

Yesterday, members from the Southern Drug Investigation Unit, with the assistance of the Alice Springs Criminal Investigations Branch, Dog Operations Unit and Strike Force Viper, executed a search warrant at a rural Alice Springs property. The following items were seized:

  • Over $75,000 in cash
  • 4.3kgs of cannabis
  • 4 firearms
  • Ammunition
  • 2 replica hand guns
  • 1 replica automatic rifle
  • A substantial quantity of fireworks
  • A Toyota Landcruiser

As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old male and a 33-year-old female were arrested and have been charged with:

  • 1 x Possess a commercial quantity of cannabis
  • 1 x Supply a commercial quantity of cannabis
  • 1 x Possess tainted property
  • 4 x Possess firearm without a licence
  • 3 x Possess prohibited weapon
  • 1 x Possess fireworks outside of the approved period

Both were remanded in custody and will appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today.

Senior Constable Nicholas Mitchell said, "Police will allege the pair were also involved in the transportation of an estimated 23kg of cannabis prior to the execution of the search warrant.

"The supply of illicit substances into Alice Springs causes a ripple effect of harm to our most vulnerable community members. NT Police will continue to disrupt and prosecute anyone who attempts to transport or supply drugs into the Northern Territory."
