Police make arrest - Recklessly endanger serious harm - Driver

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 25-year-old man after he attempted to flee the Territory following an incident in Driver over the weekend.

Police will allege that on Saturday 11 February 2023, the man attended a residence in Driver where his partner was staying. An argument between the pair broke out before the man got into his vehicle and attempted to run down the victim and a family member.

The vehicle struck the victim causing her to fall to ground, before it collided with the front gate. The man exited the vehicle and approached the victim when the family member intervened. He returned to his vehicle and sped off, hitting a bin on the verge and narrowly missing a parked vehicle, before driving to a residence in Katherine.

Yesterday, the Domestic and Family Violence Unit took carriage of the investigation and the man was located at Darwin Airport attempting to flee to Western Australia.

With the assistance of the Australia Federal Police, the man was arrested and later charged with the following offences:

• Reckless endanger serious harm x 3

• Damage to property

• Drive vehicle in a manner dangerous

• Drive an unregistered motor vehicle x 2

• Drive uninsured motor vehicle x 2

• Drive a motor vehicle whilst unlicensed x 2

The man was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ashleigh Raeburn said: "Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place on Canonbury Circuit.
