Police make arrest - Serious Harm - Karama

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man after a serious assault in Karama yesterday.

At 1:30pm, police received reports that a man had assaulted a security guard with an edged weapon at a shopping centre on Kalymnos Drive, Karama.

The security guard received multiple lacerations while apprehending the offender before colleagues provided assistance.

Police arrived a short time later and arrested the 18-year-old man where he was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries and remains under police guard. He is expected to be charged later today with serious harm offences.

The security guard administered first aid to himself before travelling to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Day said "This was a particularly violent assault and it is quite frankly incredible the victim wasn't more seriously injured.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference 10184572."
