Police make arrests - Criminal offences - Moil

Northern Territory Police have arrested 2 people in relation to criminal offending in the Greater Darwin Region.

Last month it is alleged that a 16-year-old male who was on court bail, was wandering through Leanyer on foot while attempting to unlawfully enter multiple residences and vehicles in the area, before entering a residence on Fitzmaurice Drive.

The incident was reported to police, and footage obtained from a neighbouring property assisted Strike Force Trident members to identify the male, resulting in a search to locate him being initiated.

In a separate matter, police were investigating a reported aggravated robbery after a group allegedly threatened an employee at a fuel station at Casuarina last week.

The group entered the premises armed with an edged weapon before demanding the employee open the door to the service counter. The employee refused and a 14-year-old female began hitting the service counter with a rock before allegedly throwing the rock at the employee who was standing behind a Perspex screen.

While the female threatened the employee, the group stole a number of confectionary items before all offenders fled the scene.

CCTV footage was reviewed by Strike Force Trident, which identified the female and a search to locate her was initiated.

Yesterday morning, Trident and Dog Operations attended a residence in Moil which was believed to be the location where both offenders were residing.

The pair were located however, during the arrest of the male, family members became aggressive towards police and attempted to hinder the arrest.

The male armed himself with an edged weapon and threatened the officer before he was secured on the ground and arrested.

The female, who was also an arrest target, made attempts to intervene before she was subsequently restrained and arrested.

The 16-year-old male was charged with:

  • Trespass
  • Resist police
  • Serious breach of bail

The 14-year-old woman was charged with:

  • Aggravated robbery
  • Hinder police

The pair are both expected to appear in court on 13 January 2023.
