Police responding to serious traffic crash at Birkdale

Police investigating a serious, two-vehicle traffic crash in Birkdale earlier today are appealing for public assistance.

At 3pm, a Subaru Impreza was travelling northbound on Birkdale Road when it attempted to turn left onto Quarry Road, however lost control on the bend.

This resulted in the vehicle crossing the median strip before crashing into a Mercedes-Benz bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The driver and sole occupant of the Subaru, a 23-year-old Wynnum West man was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with a serious head injury.

The female driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes-Benz bus, a 61-year-old Wellington Point woman was not physically injured during the incident.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for any members of the public who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam vision of the area at the time, to make contact.

Investigations are ongoing.
