Police search for missing canyoners north of Blue Mountains

A search operation will recommence tomorrow after two canyoners went missing north of the Blue Mountains earlier today.

About 2.30pm (Saturday 2 January 2021), emergency services were called to Wollangambe Canyon, Mount Wilson, following reports two canyoners were missing.

Police have been told the women – believed to aged 24 and 39 – were with eight other people canyoning when they were sucked into a whirlpool and disappeared under water about 12.30pm.

The other members of the group were uninjured and were assisted by officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command, Police Rescue and NSW Ambulance.

Due to poor weather conditions, the search was suspended about 6pm.

It is expected to recommence at first light tomorrow (Sunday 3 January 2021) with assistance sought from police divers.
