Investigators have been told a 27-year-old man driving a silver 2018 Ford Ranger ute was tailgated and threatened from Cranbourne to Keysborough by the driver of a blue 2006 Holden Berlina sedan.

It is understood the offender was travelling with a female passenger and attempted to swerve into the victim's vehicle near Hammond Road and Eastlink in Dandenong South about 9.45am.

The offender continued to tailgate the victim to the end of the Dandenong Bypass.

It is understood the Holden driver continued to stop beside the victim at various intersections and threaten the driver before they parted ways at the intersection of Dandenong Bypass and Springvale Road about 10am.

It is believed the offender also swerved in front of a white hatch on the South Gippsland Highway near Abbotts Road in Dandenong South during the incident.

The Holden driver is perceived to be Maori or Pacific Islander in appearance with a slim build, black wavy hair pulled back in a ponytail and aged in his 30s.

The female passenger is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance and aged in her 30s.
