Police update: Fatal traffic crash, Lake Macdonald

A 90-year-old woman who sustained critical injuries in a two vehicle traffic crash at Lake Macdonald last night has passed away in hospital.

Initial investigations indicate a black station wagon and a silver Landcruiser were travelling in opposite directions along Cooroy Noosa Road on October 4 when they collided head-on at around 7.15pm.

The 16-year-old female driver of the Landcruiser and a 45-year-old female passenger sustained injuries in the crash, as well as a 90-year-old woman who became entrapped.

All three were taken to hospital, the 90-year-old in a critical condition. This morning she was pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries.

The 45-year-old male driver of the station wagon was also injured and transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward, or anyone who may have been in the vicinity and travelled past a black Volkwagon Touareg to contact police.
