From today, Victorians can have greater confidence in their drinking water, with the new lead-free requirements for plumbing products now in place as part of the National Construction Code (NCC) 2025.
Only products that are certified as lead-free can now be installed where they come into contact with drinking water.
Lower allowable lead levels will improve public health and reduce lead exposure through potable water systems, setting a stricter benchmark for community safety.
The lead-free requirement forms part of a broader suite of changes under NCC 2025 that is now in force across Victoria.
These include the removal of more than 50 redundant Victorian variations to the code to help provide clearer, more consistent national requirements. View the table of changes .
The NCC 2025 also has stronger water management requirements for apartment buildings to improve waterproofing on exposed surfaces like balconies.
