Police update: Serious assault at Caboolture

A 30-year-old man has been charged following the serious assault of a male security guard inside a shopping centre in Caboolture yesterday afternoon.

Around 1.40pm, a man threw a chair at a shop inside the King Street centre before being approached by a security guard.

The man punched the 38-year-old security guard in the face, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on the ground.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm, wilful damage and contravening a domestic violence order.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today (October 10).
